Warm Thoughts on a Chilly Day

fishing

It's been an extremely mild winter here in Buenos Aires. So much so that it almost mimicked the summer in my hometown, Toronto. It has been wonderful, until today. Damp, cold, bone chilling wind which resembles Irish weather and when you've been supremely spoiled, it's just plain awful. So, I decided to go back to the beginning of the summer, when I visited some ex-passengers from the ship. Pat, Henry and their dog, Tattoo welcomed me into their little slice of Swedish heaven in Töcksfors. With similar landscape and summertime activities to my native, Canada, I felt right at home. Clear cool lakes, lakes on top of mountain tops, boat rides, doggie selfies, chilly swims, fishing, cleaning and eating our catch. Blissful tranquility and a little slice of sunshine on this dreary day. Breeze though the slideshow and feel the warmth!

For all these shots I used my fabulous Fuji XT1 and my sweet 14mm prime lens. I love this camera, if you are thinking about going mirrorless, send me a message, I'd be happy to chat with you about it.

NOLA Beer and Chicken Y'all!

Well, I imagine that photo got your attention? If not, you are dead inside (or vegetarian). When fried chicken is done to absolute perfection, you have to bow down. NOLA Gastropub has nailed it!

NOLA is chef, Liza Puglia and her boyfriend brew master, Francisco Terrin of Bröeders brew fame. I visited them in the spanking new Palermo restaurant last week. They have perfected simplicity with Liza's New Orleans style home cooking and Francisco's house crafted beer. The crispy friend chicken is off the charts good (with the XXX sauce, if you are missing some spice in your life) and happy hour pints for $25 pesos, daily from 5-8pm. Needless to say, NOLA has been a hit since their doors opened a few weeks ago.

For this shoot, I used natural window light with my amazing new Fuji XT1 and wide 14mm prime lens for most of the interior shots. For the food photos, I bounced a speed light and used my Nikon D600 with a 24-70mm lens. I reduced the shutter speed for these shots as well to allow some ambient light. My boyfriend, Hernan was my hand model ;) Tough job, friends!

If you live in Buenos Aires, get your butt over to NOLA at Gorriti 4389. Here's a link to a past NOLA event I covered a few years back.

*Update: NOLA's Happy Hour prices are now $30pesos/pint. Amazing deal!

Grant and Celine Test Drive 'Photo Me'

It's been a busy summer/winter so far! I have been traveling a lot, searching for new locations for Day Clicker, visiting friends, eating drinking and of course, shooting. I have also revamped my website and added a new service called 'Photo Me'. With this tour, I've created something a little different. Instead of us shooting together, you put your camera away, and I will take photos of you. It's not all about couples either, friends, family members, business groups, anyone who would love to have fun and relaxed portraits of themselves on holiday or to celebrate an occasion or special event, is welcome. Children are free and groups are welcome at a discounted price.

Celine and Grant were the first to book the tour. They wanted to document their holiday before they returned to summer in New York. We strolled through Palermo Viejo to finish at Olsen Restaurant in Soho. I used my new Fuji XT1 for the majority of the shots. A new favourite addition to my gear.  It was a crisp not so winters day with perfect light for shooting this adorable couple.

Want to hear what Celine and Grant had to say about their afternoon? Check out their Trip Advisor Review. Super sweet!

Have questions about my gear or any of my shooting techniques, feel free to drop me a line. I'm always happy to share.

If you would like to book a 'Photo Me' session, the sessions start at 30 minutes and last up to 2 hours. Follow the Book Now link and fill out the quick and easy registration. Looking forward to shooting with you!
